He said Nigerians should remember and honor June 12 because it was one of the best elections the country had ever witnessed.
This was revealed in a statement by Tinubu's media aide, Mr Tunde Rahman, in Lagos on Saturday. Tinubu is the flagbearer of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 general election.
The Federal Government has proclaimed Monday a national holiday to commemorate the occasion.
The present administration announced June 12 to be Democracy Day in honor of Chief MKO Abiola. On June 12, 1993, he won the presidential election.
"Just as democracy triumphed over dictatorship, I am confident that wealth will triumph over poverty, peace will triumph over violence, compassion will triumph over hatred, and good will triumph over evil," Tinubu stated.

"Justice, security, and economic progress will come to every hamlet, household, village, and city across our country.
"The spirit of June 12 will grow into the spirit of Nigeria, our national greatness, and our destiny."
"On this day, my prayer is that people from all walks of life and all sections of the country come together to establish a more productive and peaceful society so that all Nigerians can have a brighter future."
Tinubu went on to say that Nigerians should never regard the day as if it were any other annual holiday.
"We must remember why June 12 is Democracy Day and why all Nigerians should observe it," he says.
Tinubu stated that the June 12, 1993 election was the most free and fair election Nigeria had ever seen, and that it is still considered one of the best elections the country has ever seen.
